This is also the case in the bulk industry: dry bulk goods are often transported in bulk quantities. From plastic to titanium dioxide, from starch to sugar and from cement to carbon black.
When these substances are processed, the products are subsequently repackaged, for example from bags to bulk, big-bags to bulk, bulk to big-bags, Octabins and IBCs, etc.

Bags to bulk or big-bags
Many powders and granules, such as potato starch, cocoa, titanium dioxide, plastics and cement, are transported and supplied as bagged goods. The Galahad automatic bag emptying machine has been TBMA's optimum bulk transfer solution for cutting and emptying various types of bags from 25 up to 80 kg for more than four decades. The system is supplied as a semi-automatic or optionally fully automatic with a robot to place the bags on the conveyor belt.
The Galahad ensures continuous dust-free and hygienic emptying of the bags with a residual value between 0,01% and 0,05%. The system can directly fill a bulk truck or big-bags or be connected to a pneumatic or mechanical transport system. Due to the smart construction and the high speed, a capacity of up to 40 tons per hour can be achieved, depending on the product type and bag size. The bags are opened with one clean cut at which there is no contact between the outside of the bag and the product.
For smaller quantities, we supply various dust-proof bag dumping cabinets.
Big-bags to bulk
Our big-bag discharging systems are designed and commissioned customer-specific for trouble-free unloading of various products from different types of FIBCs to bulk trucks or silos. Whether it concerns the transshipment of hazardous chemicals to demanding hygienic applications for the food industry.
The systems are suitable for processing single or multi-trip bags, with or without a plastic inner bag. The liner clamping and clamping mechanism prevents dust, product loss and contamination. A number of unique options have also been designed for the safe and hygienic release of food and pharmaceutical products.
The TBMA program is based on a clever and very flexible modular concept in which the basic models can be expanded with various options.
Bulk to big-bags, Octabins or IBC’s
Our modular big-bag filling systems are used for the transfer of powders and granulates from silos to big-bags, Octabins or IBCs. Thanks to the efficient filling and accurate weighing, our systems are used successfully in various installations worldwide. Product loss, contamination and dust formation during filling are thus prevented, which is certainly of great importance for finer powders.
With TBMA big-bag filling and weighing systems, big-bags are filled suspended, and optionally vibrated and weighed. This ensures a stable, straight-filled bag with a 20-30% higher filling degree that is easy to stack and transport. Our modular big-bag filling systems are available for processing bags with a filled weight of 500 up to 1.600 kg. Depending on the product supply and system layout, a filling capacity of 20 bags per hour can be achieved.
The systems can also be designed as a mobile version, allowing one discharge unit to service multiple silos.
Container loading and unloading
Reducing logistics and handling costs is of great importance for many companies. Transporting bulk goods in lined containers simplifies transport (via road or water) and saves on handling costs and packaging material. The producer of the bulk material loads his product in a standard 20- or 40-foot container with a liner.
For container loading, TBMA supplies a mobile, height-adjustable platform with a filling unit with a special rotary valves, blower unit, cooler, blowpipe and filter box. The mobile unit is positioned under the silo and docked. The container is then placed in front of the unit and the blowpipe can be slid into the liner. The container can thus be filled with a capacity of 20 to 30 tons per hour.
For the unloading of the containers we deliver a dust-proof unloading unit with a special, extended container rotary valve or a mobile skid with a standard rotary valve. The release time using a rotary valve for a 20-foot container is between 60 and 90 minutes, depending on the running properties of the product. For both loading and unloading, the entire system can be operated by one person.
Loading chutes are used for the dust-free, safe and flexible loading of bulk goods such as calcium carbonate, cement, coal, flour, fly ash, gypsum, rice, sand, sugar, grain, etc.

Silo storage and discharge
We work closely together with renowned partners for the delivery of silos, blenders, tanks and hoppers designed by TBMA. This allows us to supply a full range of silo storage and discharge units in standard, vacuum or pressure applications and for the storage of various products. The silos etc are available in various materials and can be equipped with various peripheral equipment, such as level switches, valves, filters, explosion pannels, etc.
When it comes to pneumatic conveying, we offer both the components and systems as well as the knowledge and experience to select the best solution for you. We engineer and supply reliable and sustainable systems for both dense phase and dilute phase applications. In the process we take into account the vulnerability, abrasiveness or segregation sensitivity of your products.
We engineer and commission continuous and charge (plugflow) transport systems, also for large distances, both in a ‘point-to-point’ and ‘point-to-multipoint’ version. When desired, we can supply the system including control.
